Project Overview
The Bridge 6 Major Rehabilitation project, located on the Welland Canal in St. Catharines, Ontario, consists of performing major rehabilitation of existing moveable bridges (east and west) using fixed jack spanning. Kenaidan will also carry out work on the fixed-west approach spans. Construction is sequenced over navigation and non-navigation seasons.
In addition to the bridge restoration, critical mechanical installations will be performed in the machinery house. Other work includes counterweight resurfacing, track and tread plate replacement, sandblasting and recoating of all bridge components, and various electrical upgrades.
This challenging project involves multiple stakeholders and agencies. To safely and successfully complete the work, Kenaidan is collaborating with St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation and CN Rail; the work also complies with Transport Canada Marine Transport Security Regulations.
