EHS Program

Putting Policy into Action

As part of our commitment to health and safety excellence and innovation, we developed our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) program based on our extensive project experience, which complements and exceeds local legislative and regulatory requirements.

Kenaidan is committed to keeping practical and effective measures in place to protect the health and safety of all workplace parties. Our policy promotes this commitment through active participation of our organization from the top down, engaging each and every level to a committed goal of zero injuries.

Here are some of the things we do to continuously support environmental, health and safety at Kenaidan:

  • ISO Registered – ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 provides a proven framework for implementing an effective environmental and occupational health and safety management system. This registration is an important part of our commitment to protect its employees from potential harm and meet their mental and physical health needs.
  • Certificate of Recognition (COR®) Registered – COR® aims to promote excellent workplace behaviour and practices that contribute to higher performance. It is currently used throughout Canada.
  • Comprehensive work-safe procedures with Executive Management stewardship and employee participation.
  • Nationally Accredited Safety Advisors (NCSO®) – Our Safety Advisors have met the national level of training, practical application, years of experience, and written performance measurement as specified by the Canadian Federation of Construction Safety Associations (CFCSA).
  • Rigorous training programs – Upon successful completion of Core Training elements on their first day of employment, employees are then scheduled for various EHS training courses, based on their job function, work environment, and career development.

Why It Is Important

Because There's Nothing More Important Than People

Prioritizing Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) is not just a commitment; it’s a cornerstone of our operational philosophy. Our EHS program goes above and beyond regulatory standards, demonstrating our proactive approach to ensuring the well-being of all stakeholders in our workplace. This pursuit of excellence and innovation is an organizational effort, actively engaging every level of our company toward a shared vision of zero injuries.

Our culture of safety is ingrained in the fabric of our everyday operations, forming a solid foundation of our core values. We’ve cultivated a proactive safety culture, highlighted by our longstanding Care Enough to Act (CETA) program, which empowers our team to take responsibility for their peers’ safety. Additionally, the Kenaidan Strong program underscores our commitment to holistic wellness, nurturing our team’s physical health and their mental, social, community, and financial well-being.

Highlights of how we’re prioritizing EHS:

  • Our program surpasses local legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Active engagement from all levels to uphold environmental, health and safety measures, with a goal of zero injuries.
  • A strong safety culture is always promoted through our CETA program.

(CETA): Kenaidan’s Care Enough to Act Program

Working Together to Foster an Environment of Support

Safety is integral to Kenaidan’s construction processes and is the foundation of our core values. Our organization recognized the importance of employee empowerment programs to engage all employees in providing a safe work environment. This is why we created, endorsed, and supported Kenaidan’s Care Enough to Act (CETA) program almost two decades ago. The CETA program instils in workers the freedom and discipline to observe and evaluate their peers’ behaviours and encourage others to modify unsafe behaviours. This principle enhances Kenaidan’s health and safety culture as it engages our employees and their participation as a component of the success of our health and safety performance.

ISO

Exceeding the Standard

Environmental Management System

Kenaidan recognizes that protecting the environment is one of our corporate responsibilities. It is a guiding principle in the operation of our business and a key component in measuring our business performance and success. We are committed to providing a quality service that minimizes our potential impact on the environment and reduces our carbon footprint. Based on our LEED® project experience over the years, LEED® requirements are incorporated into our Environmental Management System. We demonstrated this environmental responsibility approach in constructing our head office facility; it opened in 2015 and achieved LEED® Gold certification.

Health & Safety Management System

Kenaidan’s health and safety management system outlines practical and effective measures that are in place to protect the health and safety of our employees, customers, subcontractors, suppliers, and the general public. It ensures all workplace parties comply with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and other applicable regulatory requirements.
