Project Overview
The Central Deicing Facility (CDF) at Pearson International Airport is an extensive glycol recovery system to minimize the environmental impacts of spent glycol runoff.Â
Building glycol storage tank #4 required a 10-metre-deep excavation and rerouting underground services. The 5.4 ML tank includes pump galleries, a valve chamber, and a precast pipe chase extension from tank #3. Associated works installed valves, PLC control, mechanical, and electrical, and modified the HVAC to tank #3’s valve gallery.
In addition to waterproofing the tank structure, an HDPE waterproof geomembrane was installed in the excavated area to protect the tank from groundwater and prevent the glycol mixture from contaminating the environment.
Due to operating restrictions, we carefully coordinated all deicing tank work around two deicing seasons.
