Project Overview
This contract was to construct a series of new taxiways at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The twinning of the south taxiways increased capacity and efficiency by enhancing aircraft movement to and from the runways.
There were five main components to our work. We constructed new taxiways and a gravel/asphalt haul road, installed drainage systems, and modified existing lighting and electrical systems. Lastly, we installed new electrical, lighting, and communication systems.
All work occurred within a live, fully operational airport environment during a challenging schedule of only 24 weeks. In addition, shifting wind directions often changed the flight paths, forcing construction access to adapt regularly.
The project required 240,000 m³ of excavation, 400,000t of granular base and subbase, 140,000 m² of asphalt paving, and excavation and construction of 2,700 m³ encased duct bank for the power and communication lines.
