Project Overview
Courtice Power Partners (CPP), a 50/50 Joint Venture of Kenaidan and Barton Malow, constructed this renewable energy-from-waste facility for the Regions of Durham and York. The 140,000-tonne-per-year facility processes municipal household waste. The facility will be capable of producing enough power for approximately 10,000 homes.Â
Steam generated from the plant process can heat the industrial park adjacent to the facility. The facility also recovers ferrous and non-ferrous metals for recycling. The emissions control technology at the facility establishes it as one of the cleanest energy-from-waste facilities in the world.
CPP was responsible for installing and the start-up all of the equipment, including the 180-foot stack with air pollution control equipment, turbine, boiler, garbage-waste handling claw, conveyor gallery for ash residue, scale house and scales, switchgear transformer, air cooling condenser and water tank and pump house.
