Project Overview
Built under the tarmac of the runways at Pearson Airport, the Moore Creek Stormwater Control Facility is part of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority’s management and control of stormwater runoff. The facility is a temporary holding tank collecting fuel and water from the apron and runway surfaces.
This 42,000 m³, four-cell tank measures 68 m long x 220 m wide x 11.5 m deep. Its structural design handles aircraft loading, with 300 columns, various inlet/outlet structures, and diversion chambers supporting the 1.2-metre-thick base slab and 825-mm-thick roof slab.
The facility required 47,000 m³ of cast-in-place concrete and 7,000 mt of rebar.
The earth-moving operation reused 120,000 m³ of material for back-fill and berm construction on site.
